Holy Trinity Handbell Ringers

In 1956 the Holy Trinity bellringers decided to save the money they earned by ringing the Holy Trinity bells for weddings and purchase a set of eight musical handbells. The target was reached in 1958 and the bells were delivered soon after. Then in 1963 seven second-hand handbells were added to increase the range of music which could be played.

The bells were originally bought so that the 'methods' used in tower bell ringing could be practised without disturbing the neighbours at times other than the designated practice night. They were also used for tune ringing - giving concerts especially at Christmas - and to accompany the carol singers.

After a break of many years we are once again using the handbells for tune ringing and have rung during some services - mainly at Christmas, Harvest and Easter and we also try a little 'method' ringing.

A new bell has been purchased and the handbells have been partially refurbished with money raised by the ringers and a grant from Rushmoor Borough Council. They now have new leather handles, bearings and strikers, making them much easier to ring and they sound so much better.
